Review – Love in an Elevator

Love in an Elevator, a Romantic Comedy anthology

My Review

love-in-an-elevatorI loved this book, I loved this book, I loved this book! Clearly I can’t say it enough times! Love in an Elevator has 8 short stories that incorporate a romantic story that involves an elevator in some way. Who would’ve thought that there could be so many ways that elevators can bring people together?! They’re all clever and funny and filled with unexpected romance and all the stories incorporate the elevators in completely different ways, yet the elevator plays a key role in all of the storylines. Some of the authors are personal favorites, some are authors i’ve been meaning to read, and some were completely new to me. Almost all 8 stories got a 5/5 star rating from me and I HIGHLY recommend these stories to all who enjoy romantic comedies and are looking for some major laughs!

Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars

[Please note, these stories are no longer available as an anthology and are available to purchase separately as novellas from each author.]

1. Hold the Lift by Aven Ellis

I was looking forward to reading this short as I’ve heard of her work but have never read any of her writing yet! This story was about Sierra and Jude meeting in an elevator that gets stuck. They’re both young, hard-working professionals that work hard to accomplish their goals. I love that he’s a professional hockey player (It’s the only sport I truly enjoy!) and I love the tie-in with the Magic 8 ball. Sometimes the digital age can bring people together and sometimes it can make things more difficult, but I truly believe that when things are meant to work out, they very often times do.

5/5 Stars – super cute story of Sierra and Jude

2. Down, Then Up by Beth Labonte

This was a new author for me and I’m sorry to say I’d never heard of her before. Thankfully that changed now that I’ve read her story of Lauren and Jamie. Lauren runs into her old college boyfriend, of all places on a crazy bachelorette weekend in Las Vegas. They both have accomplished a lot since their college years, but could it be that neither of them ever moved on from their failed relationship?

4/5 Stars – mixture of silly, sweet and serious

3. Going Up? by Whitney Dineen

I’ve got a few of Whitney’s novels on my kindle app but haven’t made my way to them yet. This novella inspired me to read them soon!

Fiona Kitchen moves to New York to open a branch of her massage spa called The Rub, like her flagship store in Pennsylvania. After months of having trouble finding a new client base, Fiona gets a job as an elevator operator. That job leads to some interesting adventures and I was happy to be along for the ride. I would love to read a full length novel of Fiona’s story.

5/5 Stars

4. Taking a Chance by Becky Monson

Liza and Jay meet in the elevator that is supposed to take them to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City. Liza is a special type of socially awkward; she’s scared of crowds, small spaces and especially afraid of heights. But she has a promise to fulfill and perhaps Jay is the perfect person to help her accomplish her goals.
5/5 Stars – Such a cute story!

5. Happy to be Stuck with You by Rich Amooi

I was excited to see that Rich was one of the authors in this anthology, as he is one of my favorite authors! You can get a copy of this novella for free if you sign up for Rich’s newsletter (you’ll also get his new releases for a discounted rate when they come out): Sign up here!
Happy to be stuck with you is a cute story about seemingly unrequited love in the workplace. You know what they say about making assumptions about people right? You’re usually wrong! This was a funny one, a laugh out loud comedy from beginning to end, in the classic Amooi style.

5/5 Stars – classic laugh out loud comedy

6. Upstairs, Downstairs and the Lift in Between by Geralyn Corcillo

Another of my favorite authors!

This is the charming story of where Mark and Maisy meet and fall in love. I read the full length novel recently and it’s wonderful! I enjoyed reading how it all began, even though I read it out of order.

5/5 Stars

7. The Only Way is Up by Lindy Dale

This was a new author for me, but one I’ve heard great things about. This is the story of Bailey and Callum. I loved the dynamics between these two and would love to continue reading their story if it was a full length novel!

5/5 Stars

8. Out of Order by Dee Ernest

This was a completely new author for me. I loved the story and the relationship that brews between Seth and Grace and will definitely be checking out her other works.

5/5 Stars

Review – A Drakenfall Christmas

A Drakenfall Christmas by Geralyn Corcillo

drakenfall-book-coverPublished: October 19, 2016

Book Blurb: In the spring, Mark and Maisy fell in love in the story “Upstairs, Downstairs … and the Lift in Between.” Months later, the magic of Drakenfall is still in the air, and spiced with cinnamon and mistletoe as Mark and Maisy welcome guests and get involved in kerfuffles with staff as they celebrate their first Drakenfall Christmas together.

In an uncharacteristic turn, unflappable house manager Glynis Ferry seems to be getting her duster ruffled every time she catches sight of Shaun Fletcher, the new head groomsman. And Pippa Taylor, a whirling dervish of a domestic, works below stairs to make the magic happen for everyone else, but will there ever be enough magic left over for her? There will if most worthy valet Kafi Cholo has anything to say about it, as he tries to spin holiday magic every which way. But his best laid plans always seem to go awry, even with Maisy helping out as his faithful sidekick.

But what about his grandest of schemes, set to take flight at the Drakenfall Christmas Ball? He’s depending on guest Jamie Tovell, who’s depending on guest Lea Sinclair. And even if everything goes off without a hitch, will the secret Maisy’s been hiding from Mark all season pop up at the most inopportune moment to set everything asunder? It’s a Drakenfall Christmas … topsy turvy, but generously sprinkled with laughter and lavishly frosted with romance.

My Review

A Drakenfall Christmas was written in a slightly different writing style than I’m used to seeing from Corcillo. It wasn’t your classic romantic comedy, but was more of a heart-warming women’s fiction novel with a humorous tone. This story was thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable and I highly recomend adding it to your holiday reading TBR list.

I love the story that Corcillo wrote for us and I must say it put me in the holiday spirit! I saw a review that said this book reminded the reader of Love Actually, and that’s so true! There were many relationships and friendships woven throughout, and they all interconnected to create a truly lovely, heart-warming holiday story. I loved all the romantic relationships that developed and the fun surprises throughout. Hands down another great read by Corcillo. Clever, cute and completely charming!

5/5 stars for a lovely holiday romance novel

Review – Catch a Falling Star

Catch a Falling Star by Geralyn Corcillo

catch a falling starPublished: August 26, 2016

Book Blurb: When TV star Wendy Hunter is about to have her most closely guarded secret viciously exposed by the paparazzi, she desperately throws them a delectable bone to distract them: she announces her engagement to southern high school football coach Colin Scott. One problem. She’s not really engaged to Colin Scott. She barely knows him. Um … barely. But will one steamy night between them at a wedding last year be enough to get him to go along with her charade?

She goes to Louisiana to see him and find out. But once she gets there, she discovers that Colin’s not so thrilled to discover he’s “engaged” to America’s Sweetheart, and he has a few demands of his own. And some secrets of his own …

Wendy’s got three weeks with Colin in his small town, playing the part of his one true love. And when their time together is up, will either of them be able to … or want to … go back to the way things were?

My Review

I’ll be honest, I loved this novel so much that I forgot to take notes while reading. (Being a bit of a book blogger, I take notes while reading novels to help me write a well thought-out and honest review.) Catch a falling star follows the same characters from Corcillio’s previous novel, Queen of the Universe. This time the main characters are Wendy and Colin. Their story is sweet and funny with a whole lot of wrong turns along the ride. I highly recommend this novel to anyone that loves chick-lit. Catch a Falling Star is the perfect example of what a romantic comedy should look like!

Wendy Hunter, at first glance, seems like a typical Hollywood actress. She seems to only care about herself and her fame, but she’s actually one of the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful and selfless individuals someone can imagine. She donates a huge portion of the money she makes to charities that she personally funded. She spends hours of her own time helping those who are less fortunate and she goes out of her way to do things that she wouldn’t normally do, but in an efforts to protect those she loves and cares about.

Colin Scott is a high school football coach that has worked hard to make his dreams of helping young men in his community a reality. When he meets Wendy Hunter, he unfairly judges her character and thinks she’s all about her and is selfish beyond belief. He slowly begins to get to know the real woman underneath the public persona and he begins to fall hard. But can these two work things out and overcome their differences when they’re both from two completely different worlds?

Themes; love, family, first impressions, hard-work, diligence, loyalty, selflessness

5/5 stars – romantic comedy perfection

Personal Bookish Brag

Book Review | All Summer on a Date

All Summer on a Date by Geralyn Corcillo

Publication Date: December 19, 2014

51mcZy160nL._AA160_Book Description

It’s New Year’s Eve…and reformed iconoclast Summer Hodiak has succeeded in turning her life around. And to prove it, she’s landed an absolute dream date. The gorgeous Kyle Hunter has it all: impressive career, much-used gym membership, and most of all, class. But when an unexpected dilemma slams into their exquisite evening, not even the perfect guy can keep Summer from following her nature. What she decides to do and how her date turns out, not to mention how she handles the dog and the IT guy, well…it’s all Summer.

Book Links: Amazon | Goodreads

My Review

Summer finally has a date for the first time in ages, and it happens to be with a cute, intelligent guy named Kyle-who also happens to be a co-worker. He seems like the perfect gentleman and their night starts off like a fairy-tale. Will she get the fairy-tale ending too?

All Summer on a Date is a cute short story about people turning out to be different than you first expected. First impressions are not always correct, people are not always who you think they are, and times of desperation can bring out the best, or worst in others.

It’s important to allow yourself to be true to who you are and what you believe in. Whether that means you’re a vegetarian, you brake for animals or you want to be a friendly, casual person in the work environment and not a cut throat top dog. You can still accomplish your goals and be true to yourself while being successful. Sometimes all it takes is the right person to make us realize that who we are is special and important. 5 stars for this adorable read!
