My Review

Lizzie’s Christmas Escape was a beautiful Christmas novel about life, love, what happens when you lose your way, and the adventurous path you can take to find yourself again.

This is the story of Lizzie and her best friend Ann and was filled with love, laughter and lots of tears, tragedy, and life changes. It also had secrets and surprises mixed throughout. Sometimes people can surprise you and they aren’t always how them seem. Learning to trust yourself and being true to yourself is important in living life to the fullest.

Review – Christmas Under a Starlit Sky

Christmas Under a Starlit Sky by Holly Martin

christmas-under-a-starlit-skyPublished: October 2016

Book Blurb: Neve Whitaker loves managing the Stardust Lake hotel. She gets to work alongside her wonderful family and she’s spending Christmas on the most enchanting, snow-covered island in Scotland. So why is her heart so heavy this festive season?

It might have something to do with the gorgeous actor Oakley Rey, the man she finished with before he left for California and the man she loves more than anything. With Oakley’s career in Hollywood soaring, Neve is convinced she’d only hold him back. She had to end it with him – at least that’s what she keeps telling herself.

But now she has a secret she’s struggling to keep, and when Oakley arrives on Juniper Island determined to win her back, Neve is thrown off balance. Will Neve’s fear of having her heart broken again push Oakley away for good, or is it time for her to take a leap of faith?

My Review

Christmas under a Starlit Sky is a charming story filled with lots of love, laughs, drama and chaos. Although quite entertaining, it’s sad that Neve continued to let her head get in her way of being happy in the present and letting the past scare her into not enjoying the potential future. On top of getting stuck in her head, Neve has quite a secret that she’s been keeping under wraps. Although it’s always a bad idea to lie (especially to those you care about), it’s somewhat understandable that she’s trying her best to keep this secret to herself, but it ends up creating so much chaos and havoc. Another charming read from Holly Martin.

Kiss Me in the Snow by Rich Amooi

kiss-me-in-the-snowPublished: December 2016

Book Blurb: A fun, enchanting holiday romantic comedy!

My Review

This book literally had me laughing from the opening sentence!

Sophia is one of hollywood’s highest paid actors, but none of her work has gotten her close enough to her dream of getting an oscar nomination. Her sister Chelsea’s divorce was just finalized and the sisters decide to take a vacation during the holidays to get out of town. They head to Lake Tahoe where they’re in for a fun-filled adventure.

I loved the story of Sophia and Chelsea and the adventures they have in Lake Tahoe. Amooi crafts lovely charming characters wrapped up in a non-stop hilarious story that will have you laughing the whole way through!

Review – The Christmas Cake Cafe

The Christmas Cake Cafe by Sue Watson

the-christmas-cake-cafePublished: October 14, 2016

Book Blurb: As the Prosecco chills and Bing Crosby croons, Jen Barker just knows that her long-term boyfriend is about to propose.  But instead of a diamond ring nestled in her champagne flute, Jen finds cold flat rejection.  Her once perfect life and dreams of a husband and family seem even further from reach.

A working holiday to the Swiss Alps with her younger sister Jody might not be the Christmas Jen had it mind, but it offers her the chance to recharge her batteries and recover from heartbreak.

When Jen meets handsome ski instructor Jon Zutter her hopes for a happy-ever-after seem within her grasp again. Jon is kind and gorgeous and as they bond over Sachetorte at the picturesque Cake Café, Jen thinks he might just be her perfect man. But a relationship with him comes with a catch – and there are some things even cake can’t fix.

As the snow falls and Christmas approaches, could this be the place that restores Jen Barker’s faith in love?

My Review

I absolutely loved this novel, because it conjured up a magical white Christmas for me. Sue Watson never fails to make me laugh, fall in love with her characters, and make me hungry for something sugary and delicious. I like that she tends to write about women in their late thirties/early forties at a point in their lives that they didn’t expect and never thought they’d be at at their age.

I loved watching Jen find herself and slowly learn what life is all about. One of the main themes of this novel is the idea that it’s never too late to be true to yourself and find someone that doesn’t try to change you. ‘I laughed, but what she’d said struck a chord. She was right –I was always trying to take photos, frame the moment, but now it was time to live in it.’ Living in the moment instead of constantly worrying about creating the perfect moment is one of the important lessons jen learns and it’s something we can all learn from. Yes, it’s fun to document fun moments with photos but life isn’t about creating the picture-perfect moment in order to be able to take a photo. It’s about finding those moments organically and embracing them while they’re happening.

5/5 stars for this delightful Christmas confection!

sue-watsonAuthor Bio: Sue Watson was a TV Producer with the BBC who combined motherhood and family life with a busy career. However, one day it dawned on Sue that Cosmo magazine may have been telling porkies about ‘having it all,’ and her life had become a slightly crazed juggling act.

So after much soul searching (and comfort eating) Sue abandoned her TV career, bought a pink laptop and wrote a novel. ‘Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes,’ tells the story of Stella Weston, whose life is a constant struggle with a nasty boss at work, the weighing scales and being a mum, wife and daughter.

Originally from Manchester, Sue now lives with her husband and teenage daughter in Worcestershire. When she’s not toiling over her latest novel, Sue bakes (and eats) cake and enjoys very large tubs of Caramel Chew Chew ice cream all to herself while watching ‘The Biggest Loser USA.’

Review – A Drakenfall Christmas

A Drakenfall Christmas by Geralyn Corcillo

drakenfall-book-coverPublished: October 19, 2016

Book Blurb: In the spring, Mark and Maisy fell in love in the story “Upstairs, Downstairs … and the Lift in Between.” Months later, the magic of Drakenfall is still in the air, and spiced with cinnamon and mistletoe as Mark and Maisy welcome guests and get involved in kerfuffles with staff as they celebrate their first Drakenfall Christmas together.

In an uncharacteristic turn, unflappable house manager Glynis Ferry seems to be getting her duster ruffled every time she catches sight of Shaun Fletcher, the new head groomsman. And Pippa Taylor, a whirling dervish of a domestic, works below stairs to make the magic happen for everyone else, but will there ever be enough magic left over for her? There will if most worthy valet Kafi Cholo has anything to say about it, as he tries to spin holiday magic every which way. But his best laid plans always seem to go awry, even with Maisy helping out as his faithful sidekick.

But what about his grandest of schemes, set to take flight at the Drakenfall Christmas Ball? He’s depending on guest Jamie Tovell, who’s depending on guest Lea Sinclair. And even if everything goes off without a hitch, will the secret Maisy’s been hiding from Mark all season pop up at the most inopportune moment to set everything asunder? It’s a Drakenfall Christmas … topsy turvy, but generously sprinkled with laughter and lavishly frosted with romance.

My Review

A Drakenfall Christmas was written in a slightly different writing style than I’m used to seeing from Corcillo. It wasn’t your classic romantic comedy, but was more of a heart-warming women’s fiction novel with a humorous tone. This story was thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable and I highly recomend adding it to your holiday reading TBR list.

I love the story that Corcillo wrote for us and I must say it put me in the holiday spirit! I saw a review that said this book reminded the reader of Love Actually, and that’s so true! There were many relationships and friendships woven throughout, and they all interconnected to create a truly lovely, heart-warming holiday story. I loved all the romantic relationships that developed and the fun surprises throughout. Hands down another great read by Corcillo. Clever, cute and completely charming!

5/5 stars for a lovely holiday romance novel

Summary

Get ready for a Christmas treat, generously sprinkled with laughter and lavishly frosted with romance!

The magic of Drakenfall is in the air, spiced with cinnamon and mistletoe as Lord and Lady Mark and Maisy, along with their madcap staff, welcome Yuletide guests to their country estate-turned-resort.

In an uncharacteristic turn, unflappable house manager Glynis Ferry seems to be getting her duster ruffled every time she catches sight of Shaun Fletcher, the new head groom. Pippa Taylor, a whirling dervish of a domestic, works below stairs to make the magic of Drakenfall happen for everyone else. But will there ever be enough dazzle left over for her? There will if most worthy valet Kafi Diop has anything to say about it, as he tries to spin holiday enchantment every which way. But his best laid plans seem to go cataclysmically awry, even with Maisy helping out as his faithful sidekick.

And what about Kafi’s grandest of schemes, set to take flight at the Drakenfall Christmas Ball? He’s depending on guest Jamie Tovell, who’s depending on his long-time crush Lea Sinclair. But even if everything goes off without a hitch, will the secret Maisy’s been hiding from Mark all season pop up at the most inopportune moment to set everything asunder?
