Review & Thoughts
The Wedding Date (#1 in series) by Jasmine Guillory
Published: January 30, 2018 by Berkley
Initial Thoughts: I kept hearing about The Wedding Date series. I love finding a good series and starting from the beginning. There are five books in the series so I knew I’d have four more books to look forward to if I enjoyed it… which I did!
Review Notes:
I enjoyed the dynamics between Alexa and Drew’s relationship from the get-go and especially loved that the book kicks off with their ADORABLE meet-cute which includes two of my favorite things; cheese and wine! While I began listening to this book I was actually serving up goat cheese and bubbly, so I appreciated my book world to real world connection.
One of the most important topics of the novel is black awareness and experience. A common unconscious bias touched upon in this novel is the fact that it doesn’t usually occur to most white people to give any thought to whether on not there will be another black person at an event because it’s not something that affects them on a personal level.
Other important topics and themes woven throughout the story: troubled-youth, racism, sexism, long-distance relationships, change meetings, and the importance of communication and perspective.
Romance heat factor: perfect for the slightly-steamy romance lover
In a Nutshell: Overall enjoyable story with an adorable meet-cute and even sweeter ending. This is for anyone looking for a sweet reminder that when it comes to love you often find what you’re looking for when you’re not even looking for it!
My Rating: 4 / 5 Stars
