Review & Thoughts
The Bright Side of Going Dark by Kelly Harms
Published: May 12, 2020 by Lake Union Publishing
Initial Thoughts: I recently cancelled my Apple magazine newsstand subscription because I found I stopped making time to read magazines because I’m always so busy reading books. I decided to give Amazon Kindle Unlimited a try with the initial promo deal (I think it was only $0.99 for the first two months, then $9.99 per month after that). I love that Kindle Unlimited has tons of e-books and it also has e-books with audio narration, so you can listen to the audiobook version when you’re moving about.
Review Notes:
I thought the format of the story was an interesting juxtaposition between a social media influencer and a woman that works at the social media platform company. ‘The Bright Side of Going Dark’ touches on sad but important topics; self-harm, suicide attempts, becoming a slave to social-media and living a life for the screen and followers.
Themes, Elements & Notes: An important theme of being true to yourself and living a life that actually makes you happy. You can’t live your life in a certain way just to give your digital followers something to look at.
Big theme on living life to the fullest and being present in your life. Important of living life for you, not for a screen or strangers behind a screen. Finding that wonderful feeling of being truly rooted and grounded into the earth and appreciating nature and the world around you.
In a Nutshell: The Bright Side of Going Dark is a reminder to make time for the important things in life and to be truly present in your life.
My Rating: 4.5 / 5 Stars
