One of the biggest changes I wanted to create in my life this year was to find a way to get more energy so that in turn I would have the energy to go to the gym and get things done. I enjoy working out and being active but I tend to not go to the gym in the afternoon when I don’t have a lot of energy. The days I don’t get enough sleep I find myself coming home from a day in the office wanting to take a nap rather than going to the gym for a workout. Instead of being productive with my most precious commodity (time) I find myself eating poorly and spending hours watching tv. Fun, but pointless and a huge waste of my time.
Getting more sleep and energy:
Studies and articles always discuss the idea that in order to have more energy, you need to get more quality sleep. I’ve never been one to have trouble falling asleep (and have I mentioned I’m the queen of naps?) but sometimes it’s hard to fall asleep earlier in the evening around say 9:30 rather than 11:30. Those extra hours of sleep make a huge difference in my energy levels and it’s something that I’ve been working on.
I recently did a 5 day juice cleanse from Nekter Juice Bar after being inspired by a close friend that did a 3 day cleanse. (I chose to do a 5 day because after asking my sister who is a juice cleanse veteran that recommended a minimum of 2 weeks I figured 5 days was a better compromise.) This was more a mental challenge than anything. I wasn’t physically hungry the entire time but my mind craved food even though my body wasn’t telling me it needed food because I was already getting the calories and nutrients I needed. It was certainly an eye-opening experience to our relationship with food and the fact that we should be eating to fuel our bodies so that they can run efficiently rather than be bogged down by junk food and crap.
Why am I talking about a cleanse when the topic of today’s post is getting more sleep? Having more energy and getting enough sleep should go hand in hand and being on the cleanse made me feel physically fantastic with more energy. In addition I found myself going to bed earlier because I didn’t want to get hungry late at night and start eating the whole kitchen since my juices were done for the day.
How can we get these results without subjecting our bodies to a cleanse? By eating clean, getting more sleep and finding ways to get more hours of sleep and more energy. I recently discovered a new innovative product called Sleep Complex by ORB Wellness available at Costco (with a great discounted price!) or online at ORBWellness.com that has a dual functionality; the pills aid in getting better sleep and provide an 8 hour time-release of B12 energy designed to kick in when you wake up.
ORB Wellness Sleep Complex, How it Works:
I’m not a science genius so I had to read about the product in order to understand how it works. The product contains melatonin, valerian, essential oils, Vitamin B12, and time-release technology. Melatonin and valerian help promote relaxation to help you fall asleep faster. Essential oils help improve sleep quality. Vitamin B12 provides energy support so you wake up refreshed and the time-release with TERRA Intelligent Dosing ensures the product benefits are released through the night for an overall 8 hours of quality sleep.
The first time I tried the pills was in the evening after I’d had 2 drinks in the evening. User error warning that I failed to read the full product label and didn’t realize that you ARE NOT supposed to take this with alcohol. That first night I tried it I woke up about 3 hours later super wired with energy and then didn’t sleep well the rest of the night. However, the next morning when I read the product label in full I realized my mistake. I waited a day or two before trying it again, and this time on an evening that I did not have any drinks. This time it worked pretty well.
You’re supposed to take it about 30-60 minutes before going to bed. I found that it helped me fall asleep and stay asleep and maybe it’s a mental thing but I felt like I had more energy when I woke up in the morning. Whether it’s a combination of getting more hours of quality sleep or the B12 that kicks in in the morning, I found that this product is a pretty good option for people that need a bit of extra help falling and staying asleep.
One other thing to note is that you’re not supposed to take it consecutively for more than 8 weeks, so my personal recommendation is to use it here and there during the weekdays when you need help going to bed earlier than normal. If you find yourself with a sleep problem all of the time it’s best to talk to your doctor to find out why or get a professional recommendation. However, if you normally sleep pretty well but find yourself wanting to be tired earlier in the evening to get more sleep, this is a great product to try.
Where to Buy it:
As I mentioned earlier the ORB Wellness Sleep Complex can be found at Costco and Costco.com. It normally retails on the ORB website 60 pills (30 servings) for $39.99 but you can pick up a two pack which contains 120 pills (60 servings) for only $28.99 in Costco stores or $29.99 on Costco.com! It’s practically a steal at that price and clocking in at about $0.50 per serving it’s certainly worth trying to see if it works for you.
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
If you decide to try the product or if you’ve tried it before, I’d love to hear about your experience. What are other tips and tricks you use for getting better sleep and more energy?
