I was so excited when I heard about Kathryn’s new novel ‘Queen of Hearts’ because it continues the story she began with Made for Me. This new novel can be read without having read the previous one, but this book’s focus is on one of the characters from that novel, so I would recommend grabbing a copy of Made for Me and then grab a copy of Queen of Hearts. When I read Made for Me I was hoping that Kathryn would write a book about Maryn and now she has! It’s also great timing for me personally, since I recently finished binge-watching the first three seasons of The Royals (the one with Elizabeth Hurley).

Queen of Hearts by Kathryn R. Biel
My Review:
Maryn is a strong individual and part of that comes from her experiences growing up. Her father left her mother when her little brother was born because he didn’t want to deal with raising a child with special needs (not to mention his wandering eye). Her difficult upbringing led her to working two jobs at the university to help her mom make ends meet, which led her to meeting Stephan. Maryn dreamed of finishing a degree but when your options are get a degree and starve or work and be able to put food on the table, it’s not really a choice at all.
Her determination and inner strength are inspiring and I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing her journey through her first year of being a Princess. Filled with the drama of becoming a royal princess, this book rings true to the saying that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. Princess Maryn might be addressed as Your Highness but she’s got a less than picture perfect past. Her past doesn’t define her, her actions and her heart are what defines her. It’s important to remember not to judge others based on what we see without understanding someone’s background and where they’re coming from. I truly enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to any women’s fiction/ chick-lit lover out there!

About the Book

Book Blurb:
And then they lived happily ever after …
That’s how all the fairy tales end, right? And certainly Maryn Medrovovich’s life is a fairy tale. It was love at first sight between her and Crown Prince Stephan. He didn’t care that she was a commoner, working multiple jobs to make ends meet after her father left the family in dire straits. He only knew he loved her and wanted to make her a princess.
But that’s where the fairy tale ends and real life begins. Being a member of the royal family isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be, especially when your father-in-law, the king, only has interest in your ability to produce an heir. The mounting pressure to maintain a royal image and perform her royal duties become too much as Maryn realizes Stephan is not the white knight she once thought him to be.
Seeking solace in her childhood home, Maryn’s path again crosses with that of George Panagogus, her childhood best friend and first love. He really is a good guy. Too bad she shattered and stomped on his heart all those years ago. It’s time for Maryn to step up and start being her own hero. Will she finally get her storybook ending?
