How to Look Happy by Stacey Wiedower
Book Blurb: From bestselling romantic comedy author Stacey Wiedower comes a story about finding love in the social media age…
Jen Dawson is an interior designer at the top of her game, with a job at the South’s hottest design firm and a fiancé who’s on the short list of the city’s most eligible catches. But her perfectly designed plans for her life fall apart when her prima donna boss screws her over and her fiancé dumps her on the same day.
What’s a self-respecting Southern girl to do? … is what she should have asked. Instead, she drowns her troubles in cocktails and then adds trouble of her own by “drunkbooking” a Facebook status that gets her in more hot water at work. As her ex reappears at all the wrong times, Jen’s flirtations heat up with all the wrong men—until she finds the one guy who makes her realize love just isn’t something she can plan. And when she vows to set her life back on track and stage a comeback, Jen uncovers shady business at her design firm that could take down the entire operation … and her, but only if she lets it.

My Review
Life rarely goes according to plan and that couldn’t be more true than in the third installment of the Unlucky in Love series by Stacey Wiedower. It’s amazing how many things go wrong in Jen’s life over the course of one week. Her fiancé dumped her (and turned out to be cheating on her), her boss steals her highest profile client, and she loses her dog to her former cheating fiancé. To top it all off, she takes to social media and manages to make an even bigger mess out of her life than it already was.
Jen was engaged to someone that made her happy on the surface, someone that looked good on paper. However, he was all about appearances and less about actually making her happy. Jen was too wrapped up in keeping up appearances that she didn’t realize that something wasn’t quite right in their relationship until it was over. Jen spent so much time trying to look happy that she forgot to focus on actually being happy. When a new man comes into her life accompanied with the sound advice of her best friend, can Jen finally find happiness in both her personal and professional life?
I loved the way Stacey made her novel extremely relevant to today’s social media crazy society. If you’re not on social media these days, you’re not as relevant as you could be. But when you’re on it, people who don’t care about you know all about your life and whereabouts. All it takes is one wrong post to turn your life upside-down and people you barely talk to come out of the woodwork to comment on your choices in life. It’s an unfortunate situation that has been created by our technology driven society and one that many of us try our best to avoid.
How to Look Happy was thoroughly funny and entertaining. Filled with drama, chaos and a few wrong turns, this novel proves that Wiedower’s writing just keeps getting better. 5 stars for this charming story filled with lessons on how to be happy in love and life.
