January Ipsy

Earlier this week I shared my review on the products I received in my January Birchbox. Today I’m going to share my review on the products I received in my January Ipsy Glam Bag.

January Ipsy Glam Bag

This month’s theme was All Eyes On You, which was reflected in the adorable makeup bag that the samples came in!

Ipsy Glam Bag - January

See below for a list of the deluxe sample-sized products I received in my box, in the order of my favorite to my least favorite.

Ipsy Products - January

1. Skone Cosmetics – Smudge Brush

My Rating | 5/5

This brush gets a 1/5 for it’s intended use. I didn’t own a smudge brush prior to getting the Glam Bag for a reason. I don’t think smudge brushes have much of a point and I don’t think they do anything. Although I thought it was useless as it’s intended reason to have it, I’m giving it a 5/5 because it’s exactly what I’ve been needing in my makeup bag. I’ve been using it on the inner corner of my eyes with a light highlighting eyeshadow to make my eyes pop. It’s something I was meaning to look for but hadn’t purchased yet. This smudge brush is the PERFECT item for the inner corners of the eye. I can’t even tell you how excited I was to discover a new use for this seemingly useless smudge brush!!

2. Pixi by Petra – Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in Lavender Bloom

Size Sampled 0.03 oz

My Rating | 4/5

Although I love the eye-shadow itself, the product packaging was poorly designed. The snap closure is difficult to open, which means you’re likely to ruin your polish just trying to open this little thing in the morning. Would’ve been a 5/5 if the packaging wasn’t an issue. Who wants their makeup to potentially ruin their nails? The shadows themselves are winners.

3. Hanalei – Sugar Lip Scrub

My Rating | 4/5

This sugar scrub is a good one. It has a neutral smell, has a fun sugar consistency, and wipes off clean. I would say it worked fairly well. It was soft enough to use everyday, so if anything it could be a bit more exfoliating. I don’t have time to exfoliate my lips every day, though if you do, this is a great product to have on your counter.

4. Burt’s bees – Cleansing Oil

Size Sampled – 1 oz

My Rating | 4/5

This cleansing oil smells pretty good and left a clean feel but not as oily as I first thought it would be. I was hesitant to try it at first, because I don’t normally put oil on my combination skin. This product took off all my makeup with no trouble.

5. theBalm Cosmetics – Mr. Write (Now)

My Rating | 3/5
My thoughts on this eyeliner pencil are neutral. I don’t generally use crayon eyeliners and brown isn’t a go-to color for me. I would’ve preferred to get this in a black or navy. I tried this on my lower lash line and it made me look a little under the weather because it wasn’t a good color for me. The product itself seems decent but I couldn’t get past the terrible color, so I’m giving it a neutral rating; not fabulous, not terrible.
