Today I’m excited to share my review on the products in my January Birchbox! I’ve always heard fabulous things about Birchbox and this year I finally decided to give it a try, and I must say I’m SO happy that I finally gave in and signed up!
See below for a list of the deluxe sample-sized products I received in my box, in the order of my favorite to my least favorite. After calculating the price of the full-sized products compared to the deluxe sample-sizes (plus one full-size!) the total retail value of the samples in my January box came to almost $27. The total value of the products I liked came to almost $22.
1. Harvey Prince | Hello Body Creme
I can’t say enough good things about this product. I’ve been using it as a hand cream and it is AMAZING! It has a nice subtle scent, not overwhelming or overpowering. It leaves your skin soft and smooth but not greasy at all. A lot of brands claim that the product is non-greasy but they are always all a little greasy. This one wasn’t greasy in the least bit. It also comes in an attractive, gender neutral packaging and would make a great gift for anyone in your life. [The deluxe sample size came in a yellow bottle, but the full-size comes in a brown bottle with a cream colored label]
2. Real Chemistry | Luminous 3-Minute Peel
I love this product! I’m not usually a fan of peels because they leave my skin peeling for days afterwards. At first, this one felt weird to use, but I ended up loving it. It left my skin feeling soft and fresh and this little baby is a definite winner in my book.
3. Eyeko | Fat Liquid Liner

The product itself is great. Good, bold liquid liner that mostly stays in place all day and even stayed in place after I took a hot bath one evening after work. The application is tricky and that’s why this is only getting a 3/5. I usually like to wing my eyeliner and this one makes it very difficult to do so because it’s a little too fat at the base. If they reformatted the brush tip, this would be a winner. This eyeliner will work for you if you don’t wing out your liner. I’ve found that it works well for an everyday wear to work makeup look. For nights out you’ll want something with a thinner tip.
4. Beauty Protector | Protect & Detangle
It’s difficult to say after one use if this product holds up to it’s claim. However, after trying it once, I can say that it smells good and is easy to use. I’ve never really understood why someone would use a leave in conditioner, but I love that it has the heat protection built in, which is the only reason I would use it. On average I only use heat tools on my hair once or twice a week, but I like to know that my hair is being protected from damage wherever possible. Not something I would buy for $22, but certainly a sample that I will use until it’s empty.
5. Peripera | Peri’s Tint Water – Strawberry Juice

I love the color but the product itself leaves a lot to be desired. The application is a bit revolting; it ran down my lips into my mouth and got all over my teeth. This isn’t a product you could easily swipe on while in public. It’s definitely one that is too messy for general use. Although the application was gross, I did love the natural looking yet bright color that it left behind, but it took about 4 or 5 swipes of the wand and major teeth cleanup. I give the end result a 4/5 but the product and application a 1/5 and that heavily over-ruled on my overall rating to give it a 2/5.
My overall impression:
Through this box I discovered two products that I absolutely love, got a full-size eyeliner that’s good for everyday use and got to try out 2 other products, all for just $10! I was impressed with my first box and am looking forward to seeing what comes in my February box.
