One of my resolutions for 2015 is to learn to let things go and do with less. This is in relation to stuff in general but mainly about clothing, accessories, shoes, handbags, jewelry… you get the idea. About six months about I went through a bit of a ‘Spring Cleaning‘ and got rid of some stuff and organized my room a little bit. I didn’t get rid of nearly the amount I should have and I finally decided that I needed to dedicate some time to going through my closet and letting things go.
This weekend I decided to take some time to go through my closet and get rid of clothing that I no longer wear or need. Some of the stuff I went through I haven’t worn in ages and know I never will again. It’s not just me, my whole family has a problem with letting things go, whether because it was something we wasted money on and never really wore, or if it was a much loved item that we no longer wear anymore. So the three of us [me, my sister and my mom] spent the day in our rooms going through and getting rid of old stuff. Don’t worry, we didn’t throw anything out that was still in good condition; we’re donating it all to various organizations that need clothing donations.
It felt amazing to go through and start to let go of stuff. At the end of the day, it’s just stuff. If something holds a special sentimental value, you can hang on to a few things, but ultimately you don’t need to keep it all. It’s also nice to know that by letting go of my excess, I might be able to help someone less fortunate, whether they get the physical clothing that’s donated or perhaps an organization will sell the clothing for profit to put back into running a program that provides people with help. Either way, beginning to let go of stuff made me feel happier, lighter and inspired. I’m going to continue to tackle different parts of my room and continue to let go of things I no longer need. I highly recommend taking a few hours here and there to learn to let things go. It’ll do wonders for your mind, body and soul… and it will free up space in your closet [and life] leaving you feeling less cluttered! <3
Photo evidence: empty hangers for all of the clothing I got rid of this weekend. This is barely half of what I got rid of, as I had folded items in my closet too!
